We spent the next few days exploring two state parks—George Crosby Manitou and Tettegouche—where the fall colours were beginning to burst out in bunches. We also spotted bald eagles, falcons, and other creatures, and continued to forage mushrooms to make our camping food more hearty and interesting.
After a few days in the parks, Julie's parents picked us up in Silver Bay, where we celebrated our reunion and then made our way south the rest of the way around Lake Superior. In Minnesota, we've had about a month to catch up with friends and family, several of whom really touched us by coming from the west and east coasts for visits. We're so grateful for the quality time we've spent with everyone here, especially our 14-month-old niece Abby who is an absolute sweetheart and changing every day. It's hard to say goodbyes again, but we're fortunate for the visits we've had.
In a few days, we're off on the road again, headed further south. Our aim is to begin in Belize and make our way country by country through Central America and afterwards South America, direction Patagonia. It will be new territory for us. About 15 years ago, Carlos spent two months exploring Ecuador, but otherwise neither of us has experienced Latin America. Our backpacks are ready with our tent, cooking stove, and as little else as possible with the plan to go slowly by land and check out as many natural areas as possible. Our biggest objectives will be hiking, watching wildlife, connecting with people, and learning about local cultures. Everything is better together and we're thrilled to have a partner to experience our next new continent together.
Thanks so much to everyone for the fun visits in Minnesota! And thanks for following along on our next leg! Salut and Light!

Salut and Light!
